Hi! I’m Breanne, a mama, flower & fibre farmer, natural dyer and founder of Divine Colour Acres. We are a family-run permaculture flower & fibre farmstead nestled 15 minutes outside the historical downtown of Almonte, Ontario on 3 acres of land. As a small-scale farm, we have big hearts and dreams to share with you!
I often get asked, “how did you get into all of this?” (‘this’ being natural dyes)
The short story is…when my daughter was just a baby, I was trying to find a way to make use of avocado pits. Avocado pits do not break down fast in our composting system and I was not about to toss them in the trash. I began researching and came across making dye with them. I was so intrigued and excited that I found something that resonated with me.
I dove right into dyeing with avocado pits and dyed a beautiful organic cotton baby outfit for my daughter that winter. Creating colour felt magical. That same winter I was in the process of creating our farm business and natural dyes took the forefront and I never looked back.
I became captivated by plant-based colour and its breathtaking hues that add vibrancy to the world of beauty, fibre, and art. Colour that was non-toxic for the environment created an even deeper appreciation and connection with the plants around me. The more I learned I began to see colour through a different lens, not only the colour of the plants around me, but also the colour they offered as natural dye.
We fell in love with growing flowers through the natural dye plants and the next year we decided to grow even more flowers. To learn even more about our story, read here.
As ongoing learners, we are focused on soil health, ecological restoration, and land stewardship. We aspire to offer the most beautiful experiences of local, regeneratively grown flowers and fibre through our bouquets, dried florals, natural dyes and workshops.
You can find ways to enjoy our flowers at The Flower Shop and Natural Dyes. We also hope you join us for updates at the farmstead and follow us on Facebook and Instagram to stay in the loop of the happenings at the farmstead.
